Ark High / Monarch Elementary School Modernizations – Santa Cruz, CA

The existing one-story, brick building at Ark High School was demolished, as well as the garage, the small modular building, the concrete ramp and other assorted structures on site. This work was followed by extensive site work and the installation of underground utilities. Pacific Gas and Electric installed new electrical service, including a new pad-mounted transformer. New asphalt and concrete paving and curbs were installed. Six new permanent portable classrooms buildings were installed along the boundary adjacent to Natural Bridges Elementary School.

A new independent studies building and a new administration classroom building were built on the site’s boundary bordering Swift Street. In addition, a new lunch canopy was constructed, as well as new basketball and volleyball courts. The entire campus is now interconnected with walkways providing handicap access.

At the Monarch Elementary site, the two existing portable classrooms were relocated to the western boundary of the campus. Two new permanent portable classroom buildings were also installed. The project was successfully completed.

In June 2004, both schools were moved to the closed Branciforte Elementary site as part of the Small Schools campus reorganization.
